As a result of the Governor’s mandate that we all stay home to slow the spread COVID-19, the IC campus has been very quiet. There are a number of tenants working on critical COVID-19 response efforts that offer inspiration to us and on a positive note, want to share with you.
On a positive note, IC tenant spotlights
Avocaderia launches their online bodega. Stocked with local groceries + essentials, delivered every Saturday. 100% of profits raised in April were donated to the NYC Restaurant Employee Relief Fund.
Libby Mattern of Malia Mills is the point person for IC and South Brooklyn effort gearing up to manufacture medical gowns. At full capacity, they plan to produce 65,000 gowns a week alongside IC tenants That’s My Girl, Double Take Fashions, BMGM, Stitched by Grace, and the Fashion Poet. iMakr, FABberz, and RBW are collaborating to produce and deliver medical eye shields to local hospitals. Over the last two weeks, they have delivered 1000 eye shields to hospitals across the boroughs, captured by News12. You can donate to this effort through their Go Fund Me page here and if you have 3D printing materials to donate, email email@example.com.
Members of the IC staff have been working closely with Operation Feed Brooklyn, an organization born out of this crisis. With the mission to feed nutritious food to the front line workers of Brooklyn hospitals, while supporting local restaurants struggling due to COVID-19, IC restaurants have risen to the occasion. Japan Village, Hometown, Kotti, Avocaderia, Gumption and One Girl Cookies have all contributed. Check out this great, recent piece by abc 7, showcasing this effort.
Swatch hub, is putting the fabulous into face masks, turning out these products in an array of colors. They are for sale, and custom ordering is available where they will embroider company logos or initials on the product.
We want to offer a huge thank you to Joe Tsai, owner of the Nets, who has donated 2000 ventilators, 2.6 million masks and 170,000 goggles to New York. Read about it here.
Standard Wormwood Distillery and Barrows Intense are both producing hand sanitizer. Additionally, Standard Wormwood has also created a Vapor Scented Aromatic Spray for cocktails that can double as hand sanitizer where 50% of the proceeds go to local bar staff Venmo accounts to help keep them fed until we all get back on our feet!
