Mitchell Gold on Why He Opened an Outlet in Brooklyn’s Industry City

If you’ve noticed downtown R trains are suddenly more crowded, there’s good reason why: Over the past year, Industry City, once (as its name suggests) an industrial warehouse and manufacturing area in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood, rarely trafficked by the aesthete set, has quickly become a new design hub in New York. In October, iconic home furnishings mecca ABC Carpet & Home opened an outpost there, joining the likes of David Stark, Lindsey Adelman, Flavor Paper, Coral & Tusk, and Rebecca Atwood, to name a few. The latest addition to the neighborhood? Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, who opened the doors to a new 10,000-square-foot outlet there this month. AD caught up with Gold to hear more about the allure of this neighborhood and how he hopes to attract customers there.
