Cut & Compose: Make patterns, cut shapes, build collage
You know that feeling when a cereal box or a piece of wrapping paper is just too pretty to throw away? Same. I have a whole bin for those.
In this class we’re turning that instinct into art — using recycled food packaging, wrapping paper, toilet paper rolls, and any interesting paper from around your house. As a member of Urban Sketchers New York, I’ve been experimenting with landscape collage and I love how this process forces you to simplify and see your own work differently.
You will learn:
Fun mark-making techniques with acrylic paint
How to build your own patterns and textures on recycled paper
Color and object hierarchy
How to simplify your drawing into shapes and composition
How to cut, layer, and compose a complete collage piece
You’ll go home with a complete collage made entirely from your own drawing and your own hands.
What to bring:
Your own drawing, sketchbook page, or a photo you love
Just bring yourself — everything else is provided!
Bonus: if you’ve been saving any fun packaging, wrapping paper, or printed paper — bring it! The more the merrier.
All materials are provided. I’m also bringing my own collection of interesting packaging and patterns for everyone to dig into.
All levels welcome.
