IC Design Festival Programming Guide

Industry City Design Festival occurs on May 18 + 19, during NYCDesign The Festival, a New York City-wide celebration of design showcasing the best through talks, tours, and more. IC is a hub of design and art year-round in all its facets, and ICDF is an opportunity to display its creative community. Events include interactive art installations, design and art panel discussions, hands-on workshops for all ages, and Open Studios to meet the community #UpstairsAtIC.

Talks

IC Design Festival features discussions and panels covering art, design, production, and community. This year’s discussions feature Industry City tenants Tanya Weddemire, Naomi Cohen Thompson, Peru Meridian, and more. Discussions will focus on art spaces, mental health and art therapy, artificial intelligence, and industrial design.

Galleries

Industry City is home to many artists and creatives, as well as gallery spaces that feature works and exhibits that span the artist spectrum. During the IC Design Festival, there are four gallery shows featuring different exhibits celebrating a diversity of artists. Court Street Collective will feature a new show by Isolina Minjeong and Keya Tama, Tanya Weddemire will feature Dream Landscape Beyond Limits by IC tenant Ishka Designs and Art-Hedge,Yi Gallery will feature a new exhibit, and more pop-up shows will be throughout campus.

Workshops

During the IC Design Festival, you can visit studios and meet the makers behind each business. You can also get involved with a hands-on workshop to learn about the art of jewelry, bouquet making, dyeing clothing, figure drawing, working with dried flowers, ceramics, and more. Pop into tenant spaces, sign up for classes, or drop in to get your creative energy flowing.

Courtyard Pop-ups

Enjoy the outdoor experience at Industry City with courtyard programming; each courtyard features artwork from the Collision Project and different tenant experiences. IC Design Festival Kids Art + Design Jam will take place in Courtyard 1+2, featuring IC tenant Think Talk Create, and SASKIA for hands-on activities that will keep families engaging in their design and artistic talents. The Band Shell in Courtyard 1+2 will also feature live music all day and evening. IC tenant PopUpPicnicNYC will take over Courtyard 5+6 for a lawn experience with pop-up seating, lawn games, and tables for an immersive picnic pop-up.
